Kehlani Sings About the Motions of Love on Her Latest Album, 'While We Wait'
Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Dom Kennedy, 6LACK and more.
Kehlani’s highly-anticipated mixtape While We Wait is finally here. The record marks the 23-year-old’s third mixtape and her first release since her debut album, SweetSexySavage, back in 2017.
Boasting guest verses from artists Musiq Soulchild, Dom Kennedy, Ty Dolla $ign and 6LACK, While We Wait was created “in a month with many loved ones.” The nine-track project’s first single dates back to early January with “Nights Like This” assisted by Ty, a long-awaited collaboration which dropped at what Kehlani calls “the perfect time for us both to finally put something out.” Kehlani followed the single up with her solo effort “Butterfly,” “Nunya” with Dom Kennedy and “RPG” with 6LACK.
In an interview with Zane Lowe, she revealed that her upcoming studio album is dedicated to her daughter. “I’m telling stories I’ve never told, they’re not even, some, from my perspective, they’re from the perspective of two people that I’m about to bring out into the world, into light,” the soon-to-be mother said. “Which transfers into how I interpreted their stories and then transfers … it’s basically a gift to my daughter.”
