Kanye West Brings 'Mary' Opera to New York City
Silver Kanye will perform in The Big Apple this weekend.

After being painted in all-silver for its Miami debut, Kanye West is bringing his Mary opera to New York City. Taking place at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall on December 22, the production is directed by Vanessa Beecroft and features music from West’s Sunday Service choir.
Mary opened on the last day of Art Basel Miami and was performed at the Miami Marine Stadium, an abandoned venue that floats on water and was initially used for boat races. Sources claim that the opera has a total of 12 scenes with the silver-painted West as the star. In line with the production and the theme of religion, fans can expect his forthcoming album Jesus Is Born to drop on Christmas Day.
Mary follows ‘Ye’s debut opera Nebuchadnezzar that premiered at the Hollywood Bowl in November. The production was influenced by the historical figure’s impact during his “Yeezus Tour,” with the rapper explaining, “[God] is saying, Let me take this Nebuchadnezzar-type character — Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon, and he looked at his entire kingdom and said, ‘I did this.’ I stood on the top of the mountain talking about Yeezus, saying, ‘I’m a God.’ I had a guy dressed as Jesus!”
In other music news, Young Thug is releasing a new album in early 2020.
