Converse has been known to rework the Chuck 70 in both luxurious and utilitarian styles, but now it’s brought both together on a new “Surplus” makeup. Featuring premium nubuck leather uppers in place of the Chuck’s standard canvas construction and arriving in both olive and black, the “Surplus” provides an interesting twist on the classic silhouette.

Apart from the enhanced materials, each pair also features an alternate construction thanks to webbed fabric pull tabs on the heel and oval laces that stop short of the top eyelet. On the olive pair, these accents are coated in blaze orange to provide a military-style “Flight Jacket” palette. On the black pair, the former is kept tonal and the latter is dressed in egret, adding to the premium look. Both styles are then completed by an off-white rubber toe cap and midsole with black piping.

The Converse Chuck 70 “Surplus” is available now at retailers like SneakAvenue for €100 EUR (approximately $110 USD).

The Chuck has served as a collaborative centerpiece several times over the course of the last few weeks as well: it’s recently popped up in PLEASURES x Joy Division, INVINCIBLE x WACKO MARIA and Carhartt WIP styles.
