UNDERCOVER and Nike Debut Bold FW19 Collection

After months of teasers and anticipation, UNDERCOVER and Nike have debuted their collaborative FW19 collection in full. Following their SS19 range, this cold weather capsule presents a new silhouette — the React Boot, three co-branded takes on the Air Max 720, and a full slate of apparel, ranging from jackets to pants and caps. Unlike the duo’s GYAKUSOU efforts, this mainline collection is more geared towards lifestyle than performance. However, in classic Jun Takahashi fashion, it’s packed full of practical yet technical details.

Starting things off is the UNDERCOVER x Nike React Boot. A high-cut, weather-resistant silhouette, the React Boot combines a heavily layered upper that features a zip closure and UNDERCOVER branding on the heel with a winterized take on the Nike React Presto‘s midsole. Its crowning feature however, is the pump-able Air technology around the collar for a custom fit, a system borrowed from the influential Nike Air Pressure. Two colorways will be available: an understated black and grey mixture with blue accents, and a Nike ACG-style combo of earthy hues with aqua blue accents.

Next up is the UNDERCOVER x Nike Air Max 720. Originally teased all the way back in January as part of UNDERCOVER’s FW19 show at Paris Fashion Week, the striking silhouette is finally set to make its official debut in three colorways: black/grey/red, red/grey/black/blue and a Los Angeles Lakers-esque yellow/grey/black/purple. The trio of makeups are all equipped with a heavy dose of speckled detailing on the upper’s abstract overlays, midfoot clip and bulbous Air Max cushioning unit. An UNDERCOVER text logo appears on each toe cap, and the brand’s signature “We Make Noise Not Clothes” motif graces the lateral side of each midsole.

Lastly, the five sneakers are accompanied by a full apparel collection, the standout piece of which is a fishtail parka. The design features a sublimated diamond print, only visible when the jacket comes into contact with moisture. Details like a watch window on the sleeve, zippered chest pockets and bellowed hand pockets add function to the jacket’s striking form. This practical ethos is then furthered by pit zips and a quilted liner. Other offerings include a lightweight hoodie, T-shirt with a kangaroo pocket, versatile pants and a camp cap. UNDERCOVER’s mix of “Chaos” and “Balance” branding is dispersed throughout each, as are bold ampersand graphics and sizable Nike Swooshes.
