UNDERCOVER FW19 Debuts 'A Clockwork Orange' Theme, Nike & Valentino Collabs
The droogs take the runway.
Set in a grand theatre space, UNDERCOVER held a show that was deserving of its venue for the Fall/Winter 2019 season. The central thread in the brand’s recent designs has been the work of Stanley Kubrick, with last season looking to 2001: A Space Odyssey. This time the brand looked to A Clockwork Orange for the show’s theme, playing songs from the soundtrack and taking several styling tips from the key costumes onto the runway.
The show began with a light beamed across the hall and three masked models facing the crowd, before settling into a display of everything we know and love from UNDERCOVER. Some of the newer items included brimmed beanies, mixed knit-design sweaters, velvet trucker suits and several pieces that featured large scale prints of scenes and characters from A Clockwork Orange, with a special focus on central character Alex, played by Malcom McDowell.
A set of collaborations were also on show, with Dr. Martens making a rarely seen boot shape for the Japanese brand. Nike also appeared in the show, with a hybrid shoe seemingly consisting of an ACG-referenced upper and a React Element sole. There were also Air Max 720s on show in front of the star-studded attendee list, including the likes of Thom Yorke. The show ended off with audio of the film’s infamous “Singing in the rain” scene playing as a set of six masked models in red circled the hall and stood in front of the guests.
