Kanye West Still Wants to Run for President in 2024
“What y’all laughing at?”
In 2016 during his MTV VMA Vanguard acceptance speech, multi-hyphenate Kanye West announced his plans to run for president in 2020.
With the 2020 presidential election only one year away, West has now shared he still plans to put in his bid for president, however for the 2024 race. West announced his new plans on Thursday during his appearance in Manhattan at the 2019 Fast Company Innovation Festival, where he was joined by YEEZY shoe designer Steven Smith. As the duo talked about expanding the brand — along with revealing the adidas YEEZY clog — West expressed how YEEZY’s business model would ultimately help his 2024 presidential run to the crowd’s amusement.
“When I run for president in 2024,” West began, prompting laughter from the audience. “… What y’all laughing at? When I run for president in 2024, we would create so many jobs that I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk. What I’m saying is, when y’all read headlines — ‘Kanye’s crazy,’ this and that — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also ’cause they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!”
Elsewhere in the interview, West also touched upon black empowerment, how Forbes didn’t title him as a billionaire, his LVHM deal that reportedly fell through, his dome housing structures being demolished, and his relationship with Virgil Abloh. Check it all out in the video above.
