To mark the UK’s first major exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat works, legendary London-based retailer Browns has revealed an 18-piece capsule collection. The wide ranging capsule features everything from hoodies to sneakers, as well as a skateboard, all of which feature images, motifs and quotes from Basquiat’s work.
Some of the key pieces in the collection include a denim jacket and jeans, both of which feature excerpts from Basquiat’s notebook. Other pieces reference SAMO, Basquiat’s pre-fame graffiti work with his childhood friend Al Diaz, and his 1983 Mona Lisa work. The collection was produced in partnership with Rome Pays Off, a new NYC-based streetwear brand that takes its name from one of Basquiat’s paintings from 1982. The collection will hit the Browns London store and web store on September 15.
Browns aren’t the only people to mark the opening of the exhibition, with French designer agnès b. launching a T-shirt.
