GameSir‘s latest launch, Tarantula Pro, is a multi-platform games controller that packs some pretty unique features and functionality – yet, while it may feel familiar with a design that’s reminiscent of Sony PlayStation’s DualShock 4 controller (contender for GOAT gaming controller, in our eyes), the Tarantula Pro is one of the more unique controllers that have released in recent times.

Like many modern controllers the Tarantula Pro is compatible with multiple platforms, specifically with Switch, PC, iOS and Android. But what sets it apart from the rest is its ability to change its face buttons, allowing users to swap between a Switch- or Xbox-style (wherein the “A and B” and “X and Y” are swapped around) layout with just a single click. GameSir has achieved this by using LEDs to light up the buttons from inside the controller, as opposed to physically labelling the “ABXY” buttons, and an internal mechanism powered by a motor activates the change once prompted by a user pressing the relevant button. Gamers have typically had to choose between a controller with the Switch’s button layout or one with Xbox’s, making the Tarantula Pro something of a two-in-one.

The Tarantula Pro is also a beast in terms of performance thanks to its magnetic TMR joysticks and Hall Effect analog triggers, which together combine to provide an incredibly accurate and responsive experience. The controller features nine customizable buttons that users can map to their personal needs. This can be done via the GameSir mobile and PC apps, as well as on the fly without any apps through special key combinations.

It also features HD rumble which can be tweaked and adjusted to your preference. The controller has a built-in six-axis gyroscope making it not only compatible with Switch games that use this function, but many PC games on platforms like Steam, too. Additionally, for Switch users, the Tarantula Pro has NFC built in, allowing it to wake Nintendo’s handheld with a single press.

There are customizable RGB lights across the face of the Tarantula Pro, above the home button and the aforementioned ABXY buttons. All of these can be personalized via GameSir’s apps, with users able to select different hues of colors for each light both as a group or even individually. Users can also create and save multiple color profiles, allowing them to revert back to a previous color scheme in an instant.

In the box users will find a 2.4GHz dongle for a low-latency wireless connection, as well as a 3-foot (1-meter) USB cable for both charging and wired gameplay. There’s also a charging dock made specially for the Tarantula Pro – this is available separately, or part of a bundle if purchased directly through GameSir.

The Tarantula Pro is available now via GameSir’s website priced at £69.99 GBP / $69.99 USD for the standard edition, or £79.99 GBP / $79.99 USD for the controller plus charging station.
