Awake NY and Union LA Reveal New Apparel Collaboration
Honoring The Battle of Curalaba from 1598.

Since opening up its newest flagship store in its hometown of New York City, Awake NY has been on a roll in terms of pumping out new product initiatives. Collaborative endeavors with the likes of Fear of God, Places + Faces and VERDY have been brought to life by Angelo Baque’s streetwear label, and now it’s set to reunite with Union LA for a new apparel assemblage.
For its campaign images, the duo tapped Long Beach native and rapper Vince Staples to model the pieces. So far, two items have been unveiled: a camp collar shirt and a graphic tee. The former comes styled with all-over, money-inspired print that has been remixed with a scene from The Battle of Curalaba — a 1598 battle and ambush involving the Mapuche people and led by Pelantaru who defeated Spanish conquerors led by Martín García Óñez de Loyola in Curalaba, Chile. Summer-friendly green, blue and orange accents are embedded into the design. The graphic tee is previewed from the backside angle and shows off the phrase “Union Rebellion” with a Frontman logo and “Awake” hit layered on top of each other.
The collection is scheduled to release on July 21 via Awake NY. It’s possible that more pieces will be revealed ahead of the launch as Awake tends to stagger their reveals.
