Kid Cudi Joins MSCHF For A Wavy Super Normal 2 Collaboration
Releasing later this year.

MSCHF, notorious for its no-holds-barred approach to design, has enlisted Kid Cudi for its latest discourse-prompting sneaker collaboration: an altered take on the warped ‘n’ wavy Super Normal 2. Cudi’s spin on MSCHF’s staple silhouette arrives at a busy time for the Brooklyn-based collective, whose recent ventures also include a microscopic Louis Vuitton handbag, and the recent reveal of a Big Yellow Boots collab with Crocs.
Cudi previewed the sneakers, which, per their sample tag, may be dubbed “Insano,” during his headlining performance at Lyrical Lemonade‘s Summer Smash Festival in Chicago. The shoe’s upper is composed of a fleece material, in a vibrant range of blues, pinks and reds, whereas the laces pop in a trippy bubblegum-esque pink and blue colorway. Bright blue outsoles complement the more neutral gray midsoles, and draw some attention to the shoe’s bottom. The tongues and laces are also significantly fatter than usual, adding extra flair with their enhanced bulk, while MSCHF branding can be seen on the tongue and heel alike.

Despite all the shoe’s material and color flair, fans of Mr. Rager will notice that his name doesn’t appear anywhere on the sneakers (at least in the image that’s been shown so far). This is par for the course for Cudi’s sartorial creations, however, as his Members of the Rage brand leans into similarly striking colorways and alluring patterns, with little emphasis on heavy branding.
This partnership with MSCHF marks Cudi’s first foray into the sneaker world since his collaborative relationship with adidas. The artist’s now-defunct Asterisk Collective worked with the Three Stripes on a TRESC Run in 2018, before their partnership was officially announced in 2019. The two then released a duo of Bill and Ted-inspired takes on the Artillery Hi in 2020, and Cudi even got his own signature model, the Vadawam 326 (named after his daughter) in December of 2020. More colors released in 2021 before the partnership came to a somewhat abrupt end.
While the release date for Cudi’s Super Normal 2 is still TBD, the sneaker will likely drop at some point later this year.
