YouTube Is Reportedly Testing Online Games Dubbed 'Playables' for Desktop and Mobile

Including an arcade-style game called ‘Stack Bounce.’

A few years ago, Netflix sought to expand its content offerings by branching into mobile gaming and has gradually grown its rolodex of titles over the years. Google is apparently now eyeing a similar move for YouTube and has begun internal tests of online games, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The games are called “Playables” and are accessible from YouTube on a desktop web browser or via the mobile app on both Android and iOS.

The company reportedly began seeking out new avenues of revenue after advertiser spending has slowed down. It seems that Playables will still show ads within or before them, just like regular YouTube videos.

The report mentions that several games are in the works but only describes one in detail. Stack Bounce “is an arcade game in which players attempt to smash layers of bricks with a bouncing ball.”

In other gaming news, the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera will shutter this fall.
