Rick Owens Drops $55K USD SS23 "EDFU" Runway-Worn Paradoxe Paris Denim Outfit
13oz denim is unwoven and reconstructed to create the jacket and Bootcut Bolan jeans.
Rick Owens is anything but subtle, but does the designer’s latest release take his efforts to new dimensions entirely? This is the Spring/Summer 2023 “EDFU” runway collection “PARADOXE” two-piece, comprising the “PARADOXE JKT” and “PARADOXE BOLAN BOOTCUT” jeans.
Both garments are cut from 13oz denim and have been overdyed black before being unwoven and reconstructed, by hand, by the denim imprint Paradoxe Paris. Its work is inspired by underground trends of the ’90s, notably rave and trance scenes, and this is what comes to fruition in Owens’ wild denim ensemble.
To create the jacket and jeans, Paradoxe Paris utilizes pre-used and washed denim and creates an artisanal pattern that’s attached together one strand at a time. The result is something that’s super fringed, super distressed, and the epitome of avant-garde à la Owens’ expectations.
And in keeping with the designer’s subversive nature, the jacket features details like a priest collar and a boxy fit, while the jeans are high-waisted, slim on the thigh, and bootcut below, before dragging on the floor (unless you’ve got Rick Owens Kiss Boot heels on, of course).
The price for all of this? With the jacket coming in at $24,600 USD and the jeans costing $30,190 USD, the total for the full look is $54,790 USD — and would you believe that some pieces are already selling out online?
