A Knight’s Tale Meets Y2K Punk in Collina Strada’s SS27 “Detour” Collection
Eco-conscious design leads the runway with deadstock fleece, organic cotton and recycled sequin fabrications transforming fluid gowns and separates.
Summary
Collina Strada hosted the first-ever runway show at Storm King Art Center, using the open landscape to explore themes of reinvention and detour.
The SS27 collection blended medieval romance, Y2K punk and eco-conscious design through over-draping, complex ruffles, and organza feathers.
For Spring/Summer 2027, Collina Strada staged a historic runway presentation by taking a “Detour” at the Storm King Art Center, marking the first time the famed Hudson Valley sculpture park hosted a New York Fashion Week show. Set against open fields, massive outdoor sculptures and the open sky, the presentation treated clothing as an extension of the physical landscape. Models traversed open grass, mirroring the collection’s core theme of instinctual exploration, metamorphosis, and breaking away from predefined paths. The environment reinforced Hillary Taymour’s vision of garments as dynamic, sculptural forms that continuously reshape how the wearer moves through space.
The aesthetic narrative of the new seasonal collection operates at the intersection of medieval romance and modern street rebellion. Drawing visual references from A Knight’s Tale alongside Y2K codes, punk edges and eco-conscious design, the lineup merges historic softness with contemporary attitude. An earthy yet vibrant color palette dominates the collection, featuring shades of dusty rose, mineral plaid, olive, cocoa grid and sky blue. Visually, the collection balances delicate organza feathers, complex over-draping and cascading ruffles against raw textures, reflecting a spirit of fluid self-reinvention.
The range expands across versatile separates, heavy draping and formalwear engineered for movement. Key style silhouettes include volumetric over-draped bottoms, tailored corsetry, deconstructed cargo pieces, and ethereal layering. The offering transitions from playful micro-silhouettes such as high-cut panties and mini skirts to dramatic floor-length gowns. Signature textiles like deadstock fleece, organic cotton, and eco-acetate anchor the casual pieces, while delicate silks, floral-dot shantung, and organza elevate the collection’s high-concept romantic shapes.
Standout items within the 33-look collection highlight the brand’s commitment to sustainable texture play and contrast. Recycled sequins take center stage across multiple hero garments, notably seen in the olive painted plaid Pollen Legging and the floor-sweeping Sky Chrysanthemum Dita Gown. Tailoring gets a chaotic, punk-romance treatment through structured pieces like the Nectar Jacket paired with deadstock fabrics, alongside utility-focused designs like the Storm Cargo Short in amber plaid and the voluminous Storm Cargo Pant. The dramatic contrast between delicate sheer layers and graphic structures is best exemplified by the multi-layered Yuri Gown and the ivory lace-trimmed Sarah Gown, cementing the collection’s blend of medieval fantasy and urban edge.
