Summary

Netflix has set The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey for a global premiere on December 10, 2026, sharing a first-look image of its leads

Melissa McCarthy stars as Patsy Ramsey opposite Clive Owen as John Ramsey in the limited series

The show dramatizes one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history and the reckoning that followed the child's death on Christmas night in 1996

Netflix has revealed a first look at The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey, the limited series starring Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen as Patsy and John Ramsey, and confirmed a global premiere date of December 10. The image offers the first glimpse of the two leads in character as the parents at the center of a case that has held public attention for nearly three decades.

The casting anchors the project. McCarthy, a two-time Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee, takes on Patsy Ramsey, while Owen, himself an Emmy and Academy Award nominee, plays John Ramsey, pairing two performers better known for very different registers on a story rooted in real tragedy. Around them, the series fills out a large ensemble that includes Emily Mitchell as JonBenét Ramsey, Angus Caldwell as Burke Ramsey, and a roster of investigators and officials played by Garrett Hedlund, Alison Pill, Shea Whigham, Clifton Collins Jr., Rory Cochrane, and Chris Bauer, with Will Patton, Margo Martindale, and Tzi Ma among the additional cast.

The subject matter gives the series its weight. It centers on the death of JonBenét Ramsey on Christmas night in 1996, one of the most infamous unsolved murder cases in American history, and on the personal and public fallout that followed. The framing leans less on procedural resolution, which the real case never reached, and more on the devastating reckoning the family and the country went through in its aftermath, a distinction that shapes the series as a character study as much as a true-crime retelling.

That approach fits a case whose grip on the public has never fully loosened. The Ramsey story became a defining media spectacle of the late 1990s, and its unresolved status has kept it in circulation across decades of coverage and speculation. The series enters that long conversation with a dramatized account built around the two people who stood at its center.

The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey premieres globally December 10 on Netflix.
