Quentin Tarantino's ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Novel Arrives Between the Film's IMAX and Netflix Dates

Quentin Tarantino is expanding the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood universe on the page with The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a novel timed to the rollout of the spinoff film starring Brad Pitt. HarperCollins publishes the book on Dec. 8, slotting it into a tight release calendar built around the movie’s dual theatrical and streaming debut.

The film, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, reaches IMAX theaters on Nov. 25, the novel follows on Dec. 8, and the movie completes the sequence with its Netflix premiere on Dec. 23. The two projects also carry deliberately distinct names, with the book landing on The Adventures of Cliff Booth while the film opts for the longer, more mischievous The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.

Both share the same coordinates. Each is set in Hollywood in 1977, eight years on from the events of the original 2019 feature, and each centers on Pitt’s stuntman, the role that earned him an Academy Award. David Fincher directs the movie for Netflix, working from a screenplay Tarantino wrote, an arrangement that mirrors Tarantino’s earlier move of novelizing Once Upon a Time in Hollywood after the film’s release. The sequel is a Netflix production carrying a reported $200 million USD budget, a step up from the original’s $90 million USD spend, which returned more than $400 million USD worldwide along with 10 Oscar nominations and two wins.

Tarantino’s Cliff Booth novel drops December 8.
