James Jean Reflects on the Process of Renewal in ‘Woodcutter Awakening’
A new NFT made in conjunction with Nosaj Thing and Zachary Corzine.
The last we visited James Jean, he was releasing another meticulously crafted print that featured Bath, a new addition to his pantheon of characters. Today the Taiwanese-American artist escapes to the digital realm through a new NFT, titled Woodcutter Awakening.
Made in collaboration with Zachary Corzine and Nosaj Thing, the digital animation depicts a hardened woodcutter who slowly burns off his hardened outer layer to reveal his true colors. The process of renewal begins shortly after, where the mycelium and moss regrow the Woodcutter, only to become fuel again for a ceremony of combustion.
The owner of the 1-of-1 NFT will receive both the 8K MOV file, along with exclusive access to future drops released by the artist. The digital token coincides with the installation of a monumental bronze sculpture by Jean called Slingshot at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles for Frieze this week. Woodcutter Awakening is available for bidding for the next few days only on SuperRare. The auction ends on February 18 at 6pm PST.
