Timex Marks 50th Anniversary of Its First Quartz Watch With Q Timex 1972 Reissue
The watch features hour markers that appear to float above the dial.
Timex is marking 50 years since it first offered quartz watches with a golden take on its Q Series.
Quartz movements first appeared in 1969 and offered greatly improved accuracy over mechanical watchmaking. The period became known as the “Quartz Crisis” and saw the Swiss industry decimated as it struggled to adapt. Timex was relatively quick to adopt quartz movements through its Q Series, which it launched in 1972.
The Q Timex 1972 Reissue is based on the first piece in the Q Series with a polished, gold-tone tonneau case and hour markers that appear to float above its bright red dial.
The watch is topped-off with a period-correct domed acrylic crystal while a coin-slot hatch on the caseback makes changing the battery simple.
The Q Timex 1972 Reissue is available now via Timex, priced £155 GBP or $169 USD.
