Lexus launched the LFA 12 years ago, shocking the automotive industry with its high-revving V10 supercar that was futuristic even by today’s standards, rapidly fast, rare, luxurious, and gave its Italian, British, and American counterparts a run for their money. Now, the luxury marque has provided a first look at its electrifying future, revealing its “future Lexus sports car.”

While Lexus calls this a sports car, industry insiders will immediately throw the word hypercar at this conceptual creation. Coming as part of the marque’s BEV line-up that will all launch by 2030, the concept you see above is particularly special, as it will use solid-state batteries capable of offering up to 430 miles of range and a 0-62 MPH time “in the low two-second range.”

Lexus also says, “With the bold proportions and low ride height required for a high-performance sports car, the new model symbolizes the future of the Lexus brand while also reviving the spirit of the iconic Lexus LFA.” The likeness isn’t immediate, but subtle styling nods such as the long front hood, triangular sections on the front bumper and headlight surrounds, a swooping roofline, short back end, and the curvaceous buttresses that come up onto the rear fenders and windows all offer an ode to the LFA, arguably Lexus’ most advanced and exciting car it ever made.
