Garbstore and Bodega’s New Coat Spans From Britain to Boston
The collaboration is inspired by traditional British wax jackets and Boston-born fishing gear.
London-based retailer Garbstore is no stranger to experimentation. Most recently, we’ve seen Garbstore connect with the likes of designer-turned-monk Shunji Ohashi for a collection of one-of-one denim pieces, Padmore & Barnes for an animal print shoe capsule, and even Unified Goods for a special selection of archived T-shirts, books, and prints that spanned from the early 1970s to the early 2000s. Now, Garbstore has turned its attention to the winter season with a new jacket collaboration with Boston-based label, Bodega.
The London-Boston link-up pays homage to both U.K. and U.S. culture and takes inspiration from traditional British wax jackets and early outdoor garments from the Pacific East. The new jacket is also crafted with technical goose-down insulation that’s designed to regulate body temperature when exploring the colder elements. The jacket’s silhouette is a relaxed fit, while the outer is made from Japanese cotton twill and references the long and storied traditions of waxed cotton hunting jackets — such as designs synonymously associated with Barbour – that are worn in the U.K.
Bodega’s American influence throughout the jacket is explored through its military-themed nylon waist adjusting pull-cords and chest and neck loops that take inspiration from old-school finishing gear that was worn on Schooner fishing boats in Boston Massachusetts. The coat also includes a hidden ripstop liner with goose-down padding and elastic storm cuffs that add extra internal warmth. Rounding off the design, the coat features corduroy and heavy check flannel detailing, velcro pads, and commemorative hunting patches.
