Social Status Announces Release Dates for Nike Dunk Mid Collaborations, Debuts 'FREE LUNCH' Short Film
The Dunk Mid “Chocolate Milk” and “Strawberry Milk” are spotlighted in a short film that aims to show the “joy in the struggle.”
Social Status has officially announced the release dates for its Nike Dunk Mid “Chocolate Milk” and “Strawberry Milk” collaborations, while also debuting a short film dubbed FREE LUNCH to accompany the launches. An original silhouette crafted exclusively for Social Status, the mid-cut Dunk takes on two milk carton-inspired colorways with special detailing, and the duo of shoes’ accompanying visual aims to show the “joy in the struggle.”
Directed by the Turner Brothers — the duo also responsible for short films that supported the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3 and the Social Status x Nike Air Force 1 — the six and a half minute long visual shows a day in the life of three brothers on their way to get a free lunch. They rally their neighborhood friends, interact with the neighborhood’s “big homie,” OG Hustle, and later bring him lunch from the neighborhood lunch program, which causes the film’s signature quip: “ain’t no donuts at free lunch.”
Keen-eyed observers may realize that Whitaker Group founder James Whitner used this quip to caption an Instagram post earlier this summer, letting select media outlets who jumped to conclusions about the Social Status x Nike Dunk Mid’s inspiration know that they were off base. The film finishes with OG Hustle letting the main character take a pair of Dunk Mids from the trunk of his Corvette, and the rest of the neighborhood kids rushing to get a pair too. You can watch FREE LUNCH below.
The Social Status x Nike Dunk Mid “Chocolate Milk” will release on September 4, and the “Strawberry Milk” will follow on September 18.
