On top of announcing a continued Gundam SEED project in the coming future, Gundam fans in Shanghai were treated to a whole lot more at the opening ceremony of the Freedom Gundam Statue.

The life-sized Freedom Gundam Statue opening saw a full presentation of the behind-the-scenes work that went into the build, some commentary from SEED‘s director Mitsuo Fukuda, and a light show starring the massive Gundam where it displayed its moving head. Fans of the SEED franchise were also taken back to the early 2000s with a special performance from T.M. Revolution’s Takanori Nishikawa, who performed the first opening theme “Invoke.”
