'One Piece' Creator Reacts to Live-Action Adaptation Casting News

Shortly after Netflix‘s reveal of the official cast for the live-action adaptation of One Piece, the creator of the manga source material, Eiichiro Oda, has offered his thoughts on the casting. Since the casting news, fans of the popular franchise have shared divisive opinions regarding the actors set to play Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji.

In his official statement, Oda revealed that he has been working closely with Netflix and Tomorrow Studios on the casting. Subtly noting the difficulties of working with Hollywood, the creator emphatically declared “These are the people who will be our Straw Hat Pirates!” Going on to express his excitement and confidence in the live-action adaption of One Piece.

Although no release date has been set by Netflix, filming of the show is now set to take place in South Africa.
