The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" Becomes Longest-Running Top Five Entry on Billboard Hot 100
Another record broken by the ‘After Hours’ artist.
The Weeknd has made Billboard history once again, with his previous leader “Blinding Lights” officially becoming the longest-running top five song in the 62-year history of the Hot 100 chart.
According to reports, “Blinding Lights” logged its 28th consecutive week in the chart’s top five to take the lead from Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You,” which accumulated a total of 27 weeks in 2017. Following the English singer-songwriter are The Chainsmokers and Halsey with “Closer,” Post Malone with “Circles” and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars with “Uptown Funk!”
“Blinding Lights” originally dropped in November 2019 and served as the second single of his latest full-length effort, After Hours. The track peaked at No. 1 in March and garnered a total of four weeks on the top spot.
In a recent interview, The Weeknd revealed that he might be dropping his After Hours followup once quarantine is over. “I might have another album ready to go by the time this quarantine is over,” he shared, promising that the album will be completely different from its predecessor. “I’m guilty of wanting to outdo my last album,” he added. “But it’s never like, ‘I’ve got to do the same type of song.’ I’m so happy I’m not like that. My palette is so wide.” He also teased that he’s been working on a “secretive screenplay” but refused to divulge any details until everything is official.
