Louis de Guzman Reveals New Balance 574 Collaboration
A colorful first stride into the world of footwear from the popular visual artist.
Chicago-based visual artist Louis de Guzman may be most well-known for his twisted takes on pop culture icons like Bart Simpson and SpongeBob SquarePants, but now he’s taking a first stride into the world of footwear with a colorful New Balance 574 collaboration. Revealing the collaboration via his Instagram, DeGuzman also announced that it would benefit Foot Locker‘s Collaboraid, a “global initiative to help families and children in need.”
de Guzman referred to the color selection as a “personal palette” in another Instagram caption, and its bright build is decidedly in line with the vibrant hues present throughout his artwork. Quarters and eyestays are done up in rich purple suede, with baby blue mudguards surrounding a steel gray mesh toebox. More baby blue appears around the midfoot and a dash of purple sits at the front of the toebox as well.
New Balance‘s signature N logos are done up in smooth red leather, contrasting the pebbled leather heel pieces. Gray and black suede around the collar and on the heel, respectively, round off the top half. Down below, molded plastic heel clips and ABZORB foam midsoles are done up in an eggshell white to finalize the look.
An official release date for the Louis de Guzman x New Balance 574 has yet to be announced, but expect an arrival sometime this October.
