Watch BERWYN's Emotional New "017 FREESTYLE" Music Video
The Trinidad-born, Romford-raised artist’s new project ‘Demotape/Vega’ drops soon.
BERWYN‘s range knows no bounds. The rising Trinidad-born, Romford-raised artist raps, writes his own songs and actively produces. Each release comes with an urgency as if he needs unburden himself of ongoing internal struggles, at least for a moment. He worked through his flaws, like overcompensating personal pain with drinking with a brutal honesty over minimalist piano keys on “GLORY”. Now he returns with “017 FREESTYLE” ahead of the release of his Demotape/Vega project set to release this Friday, September 25.
That same minimalism is on full display here. Harrowing piano keys and lonely finger snaps serve as the only form of percussion for the opening half the song. “Not long before the dust settles, we’ve been about/ Since Jay made Reasonable Doubt/ A couple people in my circle in need of some work/ Know me enough to know that I’ll never see them without/ I’ve been busy doing the shit these niggas claim they doing/ The only difference being me, I have people to vouch/ I left school and I went straight into the family business/ Where I learned how to build a future off a half-an-ounce,” he raps. The second half of the song showcases the production chops as BERWYN’s voice grows hoarse over rapid-fire bars and the weight of his words.
