The Original Version of 'Tha Carter V' Could Be Releasing Soon
The album’s initial tracks were abandoned due to a feud between Birdman and Lil Wayne.
Lil Wayne and Birdman‘s high-profile legal feud delayed Tha Carter V multiple times over Cash Money contractual disputes. The three-year battle ultimately was decided in Wayne’s favor resulting in the album’s release and came with a public apology from Birdman. The wait was so long that Pharma-bro Martin Shkreli even leaked tracks from the unreleased album back in 2017.
The prolonged setback also had other ramifications: the initial tracklist for Tha Carter V was scrapped while the project remained in limbo. According to Mack Maine, the original version of the album could be resurfacing in time for Lil Wayne’s 38th birthday (on September 27), just rebranded as the deluxe edition.
After gifting Tunechi with an early birthday present in the form of a 2020 McLaren 720S, Mack Maine told TMZ that a deluxe version of Tha Carter V is on the way as soon as this Friday, September 25. The FADER points out that fans have noticed a number of songs uploaded to the Shazam database as well with a song inspired by Scottie Pippen, a Raekwon feature and more revealed. Meanwhile, Wayne continues to hint at Tha Carter VI while his latest effort Funeral received widespread critical-acclaim. It’s own deluxe edition released back in June.
Stay tuned for more developments about the potential release of the original version of Tha Carter V as Lil Wayne’s birthday draws near. In more music news, Kodak Black is suing the Federal Bureau of Prisons over alleged torture and religious suppression.
