Nas and Hit-Boy's New "Ultra Black" Music Video Celebrates Black Unity
Featuring appearances by Dapper Dan, Kerby Jean-Raymond and more.
Earlier this week Nas teamed up with Pantone Color Institute to create a symbolic custom color dubbed “Ultra Black” inspired by his new album King’s Disease. The collaboration continued to champion the legendary emcee’s unapologetic approach to Pro-Black and pro-humanity messaging during this time of social justice and political activism as the Black Lives Matter movement continues to grow across the United States. Now he returns with the new music video for “Ultra Black” directed by Spike Jordan and featuring appearances by Hit-Boy, Dapper Dan and Kerby Jean-Raymond.
The video depicts different characters’ stories from sun-up to sun-down and stresses the importance of community, family and solidarity. Nas also takes a notable shot at Doja Cat after controversy has surrounded her dating back to what many consider anti-Black sentiments through her early demos. “Sometimes I’m over-black, even my clothes are black/ Cash Money with the white tee and the soldier rag/ We goin’ ultra black, unapologetically black/ The opposite of Doja Cat, Michael Blackson black,” he raps.
Since releasing King’s Disease, which has garnered critical-acclaim and has been heralded as a return to form by the veteran New York rapper, Nas has detailed why his last full-length album, his 2018 collaboration with Kanye West in Nasir, didn’t go as planned. Watch the new music video above.
