UPDATE (August 26, 2020): Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been officially announced alongside a new trailer that delves into its 1981 setting, where “deception and subterfuge” detail the single-player campaign experience. Players will encounter historic figures like President Regan and learn “hard truths” battling through locations set in East Berlin, Turkey, Vietnam, and more. The title will arrive with a free multiplayer, a Battle Pass system, and Zombies mode post-launch. It will feature cross-play support across current and next-generation systems with cross-progression across all modes, including Call of Duty: Warzone. New inventory items will be introduced for use in both games as well.

Pre-order Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War physical or digitally today and players will instantly unlock digital rewards, including Black Ops Operator Frank Woods now, and gain early access to the Cold War multiplayer open beta.

Although open beta dates have yet to be announced, Multiplayer will be revealed September 9 on Twitch ahead of the game’s full release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One November 13. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X editions will also arrive this holiday season.

ORIGINAL STORY (August 25, 2020): With only a day away from its official release, another datamine has revealed the official description for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War title from Treyarch. According to CODTracker, the game will serve as a direct sequel to the original Call of Duty: Black Ops set in the middle of the Cold War in the 1980s. Players will “battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more” as part of the campaign.

Returning characters from the series include Woods, Mason, and Hudson alongside a new cast of heroes trailing a spy named Perseus. “As elite operatives, you will follow the trail of a shadowy figure named Perseus who is on a mission to destabilize the global balance of power and change the course of history,” the leaked description states. “Descend into the dark center of this global conspiracy alongside iconic characters Woods, Mason and Hudson and a new cast of operatives attempting to stop a plot decades in the making.”

Outside of campaign details, the leak also confirms the return of “Zombies” mode, and promises the “next generation” of multiplayer, utilizing all Cold War-era weaponry exclusively.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will go up for pre-order according to the leaks, following tomorrow’s official release.

In other gaming news, the first trailer for Lord of the Rings: Gollum has surfaced.
