Kosuke Kawamura Crafts Intricate Collages for NEIGHBORHOOD Collab
Bold graphics across four distinct tees.
Following his collaboration with music label BLACK SMOKER RECORDS, celebrated Japanese artist Kosuke Kawamura returns with a new apparel partnership with NEIGHBORHOOD. The offering consists of four distinct T-shirts featuring intricate black and white imagery gleaned from the artist’s original collages. Subjects featured in the visual composites include pin-up models, skulls and flowers. Base options for the tees are available in two colors: white and gray.
Kawamura is known for his collages that glean pop culture references such as television shows, mass-produced products and various news clippings. His practice blurs the lines between figuration and abstraction as the artist uses a paper shredder to create different cut-outs and shapes of the visuals he selects. His complex layering of graphics recalls the recalls the Soviet photomontages of 1920-1950. When he’s not creating work for his fine art practice, the artist lends his artistic abilities to fashion collaborations including many mainstay Japanese brands such as Revolver, Flagstuff, Studio 33, Poggy The Man and Bounty Hunter.
Check out the tees in the slideshow above. The collaboration will release this August 22 at all NEIGHBORHOOD stores in Japan. Prices start at ¥8,000 JPY (approx. $75 USD).
Elsewhere in fashion, Awake NY just unveiled a “Re-Up” tee collection.
