'Surviving Joe Exotic' Documents Former Zoo Owner's Breeding and Animal Welfare Practices
“I ain’t gonna lie, they’re my f***ing tigers, I’m gonna sell ‘em, and it’s my money.”
It was only a few months ago when the world became obsessed with Joe Exotic and Netflix‘s Tiger King. Now, Animal Planet has produced a documentary detailing the former zoo owner’s controversial breeding practices and animal welfare standards, called Surviving Joe Exotic.
Animal Planet gained exclusive access to Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, four months prior to him being sentenced to 22 years in prison for organizing a hit on his arch-nemesis, Carole Baskin.
As expected, the documentary teases a chaotic, gun-toting, foul-mouthed, Joe Exotic. The trailer shows lots of tigers in cages, and hears Exotic exclaim, “I ain’t gonna lie, they’re my f***ing tigers, I’m gonna sell ‘em, and it’s my money.” In the next scene, he says, “It’s a labor of love.”
Elsewhere, Joe Exotic fires a pistol at a rooster for making too much noise, telling it to “get out of here.” For those interested in seeing more of Joe Exotic’s antics, and wanting to get another insight into the breeding practices and welfare of these animals, tune in to Animal Planet’s Surviving Joe Exotic on July 25 at 10 p.m. ET in the U.S., or watch it in the U.K. now on DStv.
In other news, Netflix’s stock prices have plummeted.
