CELINE HOMME SS21 Channels E-Boys and Skaters in Confinement

Hedi Slimane’s latest takes to the racetrack in “THE DANCING KID.”

CELINE HOMME Spring/Summer 2021 is a blend of Hedi Slimane‘s disparate inspirations, from the classic western film Johnny Guitar to TikTok. Its name, “THE DANCING KID,” hints at the space between, drawing inspiration for its colorful garments from the youthful app without departing entirely from Slimane’s rocker codes.

While Fall/Winter 2020 delivered refined tailoring with a hint of masculine subversion, SS21 delves entirely into playfully bold patterns, prints and appliqué. The sparkly LED-studded jackets, oversized flannel shrits and leopard-patterned pants seem tailor-made for TikTok stars — indeed, the luxury house has already posted Instagram Stories of TikTok stars like @lilhuddy and @noeneubanks — already a CELINE muse — styling the next season styles on their native platform.

Soundtracked by Tiagz’s TikTok smash “They Call Me Tiago” — edited exclusively for CELINE HOMME’s 12-minute presentation — “THE DANCING KID” takes cues from Slimane’s response to months of confinement, imagining a wardrobe fit for young creatives stifled by circumstance. The brand specifically cites “e-boys and current skate culture” as central to “THE DANCING KID” as both a film and collection, as well as the theme of “reclaiming the night.”

These conceits are reflected in the collared shirts worn underneath CELINE sweaters, dangling lock-laden necklaces and Slimane’s signature ripped (or “lacerated”) skinny jeans, seen stacked atop CELINE HOMME’s new Z Traners, set to launch in November 2020. Tie-dyed layering pieces and knit beanies lend texture to the tiger stripe ponchos and sleeveless leather jackets that recall yesteryear’s nightlife staples, while the plaid skirts, sleek eyewear and branded bags are a natural fit for gender-fluid Gen Z consumers.

Behold “THE DANCING KID” in full above and on CELINE’s website.

Elsewhere, gender is probed in recent videos from Random Identities and Bottega Veneta.
