Nike Air Zoom Division Blends '90s Racing Flat Style With Modern-Day Zoom Air Tech
The latest product of Nike Sportswear’s experimentations with Zoom Air’s lifestyle applications.
Nike Sportswear‘s summer 2020 footwear offerings experiment with different applications of Zoom Air for lifestyle products, an exploratory ethos whose latest product is the new Air Zoom Division. Following closely in the footsteps of the recently-revealed Zoom Double Stacked, the Air Zoom Division blends the style of Nike Running‘s classic ’90s racing flats with modern-day Zoom Air tech.
Four colorways have been revealed: a white/black with red and volt accents somewhat reminiscent of the Air Scream LWP‘s most memorable makeup, a red/white/blue that offers shades of the legendary Air Max 180 “Ultramarine,” a timeless white/black and a toned-down mixture of sail and white with grey branding. Each boasts a minimalist, layered upper with see-through mesh on the quarter and a shape inspired by the Air Streak Lite. This makes use of both fused synthetics and tumbled leathers over its mesh base, presents a Swoosh that’s cut off at the collar and places old-school Nike text branding found on models like the Zoom Spiridon on its tongue.
Where the uppers are classic in nature, the midsoles are all modern in both build and technology. Double-stacked slabs of EVA foam are placed in asymmetrical fashion, with the lower piece jutting out further than the top for a heel spoiler of sorts. Much like the N. 354 line’s recently-released Air Zoom Type, this duo is separated by a thin plastic plate, and offers Zoom pucks loaded into the forefoot for a responsive fit and technical style.
The Nike Air Zoom Division will release on the Nike webstore and at select Swoosh retail partners come July 2. A retail price has yet to be announced.
Elsewhere, Dior has officially opened the raffle for its highly-anticipated Air Jordan 1 collaborations.
