Nike Adapt Auto Max Powers Up in "Anthracite"
An elegant, mysterious colorway for the high-tech lifestyle slhouette.

After debuting in a “Motherboard” makeup for Air Max Day and then releasing in an Air Max 90-inspired “Infrared”, Nike‘s ultra-advanced Adapt Auto Max is back in a new “Anthracite” colorway. An elegant color scheme that’s seemingly equal parts classic Nike ACG and futuristic Nike Sportswear, the “Anthracite” is a fitting third style for the Swoosh’s newest power lacing sneaker.
Air MAG-inspired uppers are dressed in a sleek black — flat on the neoprene base, jet on the midfoot Swoosh, toe bumper and heel. The shoe’s namesake emerald hue is then splashed across the elongated heel clip and textured rubber midsole piece. It’s also sprinkled across the midsole’s EVA foam forefoot, where it’s mixed with black to create an abstract pattern. More branding is present via a spellout on the rubberized tongue badge, a small yellow Swoosh on the heel, and an alien graphic on the insoles. Air Max cushioning units and outsoles are done up in jade as well, and heel tabs offer a strip of silver hi-vis reflective material.
From a technical standpoint, the Adapt Auto Max houses a motor in its midsole that tightens and loosens the throat’s stretchy straps. The fit of each shoe can be adjusted via the wearer’s iPhone or Android device, and the app that controls the fit is also able to change the color of the midsole’s two lights. There’s also preset fit options — looser for casual wear, tighter for athletic performance — and a wireless charging pad is included in the packaging to keep the motors and lights running at full power.
The Nike Adapt Auto Max “Anthracite” will release via Nike SNKRS on June 18. The MSRP is set at $400 USD.
On a charitable front, Nike, Jordan Brand and Converse recently pledged $40,000,000 USD to social justice causes over the next four years.
