'Cyberpunk 2077' to Get Standalone Anime Series on Netflix
From the studio behind ‘Kill la Kill.’
While CD Projekt Red fans may have been disappointed with the recent news that the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 has once again been delayed, it now seems the video game developer has another announcement that would make up for it: the game will be getting its own standalone anime series on Netflix.
Named Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, CD Projekt Red and Netflix will be making the show by teaming up with the famous Japanese animation studio Trigger, responsible for other massive anime titles including Kill la Kill and Promare.
In terms of its plot, the upcoming series will be based in the same world as its video game counterpart, but will feature a completely different set of characters and a fresh storyline. The current synopsis for Edgerunners reads: “CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.”
The show is planned for a 2022 debut on Netflix, so fans of the franchise will have plenty of time to play the upcoming video game first, which is slated for release on November 19.
