Don Toliver shook the hip-hop realm with his debut album Heaven or Hell earlier this year, delivering a slew of pithy bars atop psychedelic beats that gave fans a taste of his unmistakable direction. Today, the Travis Scott protege and Cactus Jack signee has been deemed Apple Music’s latest Up Next artist, further solidifying his place as the industry’s latest wunderkind.

“Hype for my fans to get a better glimpse at who I am and excited for the opportunity given,” said Toliver. The program, initiated in order to bring attention to the best of music’s budding talent, aptly picked Toliver after showcasing his penchant for catchy poetics and an entrancing sonic vision that dipped into the hallucinatory.

“It was clear Don Toliver had something special when I heard his feature on ‘CAN’T SAY’ off Travis Scott’s Astroworld,” noted Apple Music’s Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B Ebro Darden. “Don’s command of melody combined with his lyrical ability make him a real stand out amongst his peers. Houston has a ton of momentum right now and highlighting Toliver as Up Next seeks to further acknowledge the talent that Texas keeps bringing to the table.”

Alongside the announcement, Apple Music has also shared a short film introducing the artist that details his rise from the Houston underground to the forefront of hip-hop, as well as an exclusive interview between Toliver and Ebro, wherein the two tastemakers speak on Don’s Heaven or Hell, his inclusion into the Up Next program, and much more.

Fans can catch the interview as well as an exclusive look at Toliver’s rise below.
