Charli XCX Delivers Highly-Inventive Pop in New Album 'how i'm feeling now'
The do-it-yourself project was crafted entirely during quarantine.

Charli XCX has delivered her fourth studio album how i’m feeling now, which arrives less than a year after her expansive self-titled record, Charli. The do-it-yourself project was made entirely during quarantine and was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and includes previously released singles “forever,” “claws,” and “i finally understand.”
how i’m feeling now was initially announced on April 6, with Charli sharing that “the nature of this album is going to be very indicative of the times just because I’m only going to be able to use the tools I have at my fingertips to create all music, artwork, videos, everything.” This lead to her involving fans to create single artwork, to using sent-in clips of them during self-isolation for music videos.
On the 11-track project, the English singer and songwriter continues to deliver a slew of highly-inventive pop, a reflection of not only Charli’s evolution but also the producer she’s enlisted for the project. PC Music’s mastermind and Charli’s creative director, A.G. Cook, handled the bulk of the album’s production, delivering highly-distorted arrangements that relish in dazzling brashness. A.G. Cook and Charli are in full unison on how i’m feeling now. While one might think of a self-isolation album to be solemn and full of lonesome undertones, Charli’s fourth LP is a bright, brazen-faced collection of tracks that openly speaks on the difficult times that many are currently enduring.
