Thundercat Taps Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington & His Brother for "Innerstellar Love" Single
‘It Is What It Is’ is almost here.
Tomorrow, Thundercat drops off his latest record, It Is What It Is via Brainfeeder Records. The project comes after a strong run of singles ranging from the Steve Lacy collaborative effort “Black Qualls”, the hilarious and star-studded Zack Fox-directed “Dragonball Durag” music video, and a song that saw Lil B and Ty Dolla $ign get emotional with a Mac Miller tribute in “Fair Chance.” Today, Thundercat reveals his fourth and final single, “Innerstellar Love.”
“Innerstellar Love” takes listeners on a galactic search for a soul mate with help in the production department from longtime collaborators Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington. The track breaks down at the halfway point for a soulful solo from Washington’s tenor saxophone while Thundercat’s brother, drummer Ronald Bruner Jr. takes over percussion duties.
“This album is about love, loss, life and the ups and downs that come with that,” Thundercat said in a recent press statement. “It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek, but at different points in life you come across places that you don’t necessarily understand… some things just aren’t meant to be understood.”
