Phoebe Bridgers Announces Upcoming Album 'Punisher'
Supported by the release of her newest single, “Kyoto.”
Phoebe Bridgers has announced her upcoming album, Punisher. Her sophomore release following 2017’s Stranger in the Alps, she accompanied the announcement with a single release for “Kyoto.”
In a press release, Bridgers explained that her plans to film a music video for “Kyoto” in Japan were axed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, so she opted to use a green screen in Los Angeles instead.“This song is about impostor syndrome. About being in Japan for the first time, somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, and playing my music to people who want to hear it, feeling like I’m living someone else’s life,” she said. “I dissociate when bad things happen to me, but also when good things happen. It can feel like I’m performing what I think I’m supposed to be like. I wrote this one as a ballad first, but at that point I was so sick of recording slow songs, it turned into this.”
Stream Phoebe Bridgers’ “Kyoto” on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. Punisher drops June 19 via Dead Oceans.
Elsewhere in new music releases, The Strokes make their triumphant return with The New Abnormal.
