Masego Goes on a "King's Rant" in First Solo Release of the Year
“‘Member that one time, K-Dot freestyled on my beat?”
Masego returns with a triumphant proclamation to kick off his 2020, re-introducing himself as a force to be reckoned with in his latest single, “King’s Rant.” He rounded out last year with his Christmas-themed collaboration between Smino and Monte Booker for the two-track High 4 Da Highladays EP. Previously, Masego infused some serious soul thanks to his appearance on Ta-ku and Matt McWaters’ “Flight 99” track for a memorable highlight.
The Jamaican-born, Virginia-bred musical polymath has switched between drums, piano and saxophone on numerous records, all leading up to his debut album Lady Lady in 2018. “King’s Rant” enlists producers Jah & Jasper with additional instrumentation from Maurice Brown (horns), Dan Foster (keys) and Elton Chueng (mixing). The groove finds Masego recounting some exclusive studio stories of collaborators and famous friends ranging from Kendrick Lamar, Swizz Beatz and Kelly Rowland all while letting his listeners know that the end goal isn’t fame. “Your words not mine, yeah, I keep to myself/ I do everything, I don’t need no help/ So don’t be talkin’ ’bout “Masego is slept on/ J.Cole, Will Smith in my cell phone/ You lucky I don’t wanna be famous.”
Just two days ago, Masego celebrated his international hit “Tadow” earning an RIAA Gold Certification which led to the release of his “King’s Rant.” Watch below and be on the lookout for more new music from Masego in the near future.
