Y-3 Runner 4D Takes on Two Sporty Colorways
“Solar Orange” and “Footwear White” serve as part of the brand’s SS20 collection.
Y-3 is following up its beach-geared SS20 “Swim” collection with two new colorways of its high-end Runner 4D: “Black/Solar Orange” and “Black/Footwear White.” The latest result of the long-running collaborative effort between legendary Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and adidas, this dashing duo melds futuristic form, sporty construction and premium flair in equal measures.
Each style is centered around a low-slung black mesh upper that’s given texture by a number of thickly embroidered accents. These are most prominent on the midfoot and toebox — “Black/Solar Orange” uses warm tangerine hues as trim around the white peaks on its forefoot, while “Black/Footwear White” keeps things mostly tonal.
Debossed Y-3 hits are present on tongues and heels alike. Although the embellishment is indeed similar, the styles diverge on base shades once again with “Black/Solar Orange” using metallic silver and “Black/Footwear White” keeping things stark. Leather sockliners and footbeds add just enough luxurious flair to both pairs.
Intricate uppers are placed above a 4D-printed midsole, the latticed structure of which is dressed in a flat, chalky black hue. adidas has been experimenting with the color of 4D lately after exclusively using “Aero Green” for years — we’ve seen jet black midsole shades on a F&F EVO 4D for Paris Fashion Week and a 4D Run 1.0 “Signal Coral” in past weeks — but this marks the first time the futuristic midsoles have been matte instead of glossy. Black Continental rubber outsoles finalize both styles.
The Y-3 Runner 4D “Black/Solar Orange” and “Black/Footwear White” are priced at $500 USD per pair, and set to release at retailers like Sneakersnstuff on March 19.
