Andre Bato's 'Retirement Calling?' Recognizes the Emerging Creatives of Tomorrow
All profits of the tabletop book benefit Free Arts NYC.

Multi-hyphenate Andre Bato has developed a storied career as a creative director for both corporate clients like Nike and Reebok and independent imprints like Telfar but his final effort for 2020 is a purely personal affair. His latest tabletop book, Vol 2: Retirement Calling? We’re Listening — Retirement Calling? for short — is an ode to Bato’s previous collaborators and peers, many of whom are emerging in their own fields to shape the ideas of the future.
Spanning interviews, artwork, editorials and a plethora of stylized layouts, Retirement Calling? showcases a host of Bato’s accomplices, including music photographer Jack McKain, filmmaker Tom Kan, photographer Noah Dillon and designer Reese Cooper. Each leaves a mark upon Bato’s book, imparting elements of their worldview in distinctive sections parceled out between the contributors. To underscore Retirement Calling?‘s overarching paean to progressive themes like racial inclusivity and sexual articulation, all of the profits that it garners will be donated to Free Arts NYC.
“I founded Andre Bato Corp after years of seeing my creative voice diluted, deconstructed or even stolen by those I was working for,” Bato said in a statement. “Andre Bato Studio isn’t just one thing, because we’re not just one talent, voice or vision. We’re a group that is truly figuring out what it means to be a creative, today.”
Vol 2: Retirement Calling? We’re Listening is available on Andre Bato’s website for $145.99 USD.
More covetable tabletop books are en route elsewhere: Bato’s former client, Nike, recently issued a new tome of its own through Phaidon.
