DC Studios is continuing to expand its new cinematic universe with the upcoming release of Man of Tomorrow. Unveiled amid a wave of recent casting updates, the highly anticipated Superman sequel will see 31-year-old actor Aaron Pierre step onto the big screen as the iconic Green Lantern, John Stewart.
Serving as a direct follow-up to the 2025 Superman reboot, the James Gunn-written and directed feature continues to build out an interconnected storyline. The narrative will reportedly follow a massive space-faring clash, forcing David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor to team up and save the galaxy from a new threat. The addition of John Stewart perfectly aligns with the film’s cosmic tone, bringing the Green Lantern Corps face-to-face with the villainous Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger.
Before making his theatrical appearance in the film, Pierre will first debut as John Stewart alongside Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO television series Lanterns, which arrives this August. Production for the superhero blockbuster is officially slated to begin this April in Atlanta and will continue filming throughout the summer. The strategic casting move emphasizes Gunn and co-president Peter Safran’s overarching goal of seamlessly integrating television and film characters across the screen.
Man of Tomorrow drops July 9, 2027 via theaters.
