Vodka brand Absolut has a long history of supporting the arts, collaborating with renowned creatives from Keith Haring to Herb Ritts. Its mission to embrace cultural outsiders now returns to the world of fashion for its latest co-creation with London-based luxury menswear brand, clothsurgeon.
Titled the ‘Absolut T Project’, the collaborative collection features 79 limited-edition T-shirts that signify the coming together of different backgrounds, cultures and ideas encapsulated within one product. Drawing inspiration from the iconic white T-shirt and its history as a tool for activism and change, Absolut and clothsurgeon reinterpret the garment with Rav Matharu‘s signature attention to detail and craftsmanship.
Each piece is intricately crafted from organic sourced fabrics from across the globe, locations that are meaningful to the Creative Director. The technical jersey arrives from Japan, slub from India, heavy jersey from the USA, mercerized cotton from Italy and cotton collar ribbing from England; the materials blend effortlessly to form the silhouette. These fabrics are woven with the Absolut medallion, creating a detailed patchwork. The overall result is an expression of the beauty that comes from embracing differences. It’s a simple but powerful concept that reflects Absolut and clothsurgeon’s hope for a more open world.
Discussing how the collaboration came about, Rav Matharu explained, “When Absolut approached me for this project, I knew I had to say yes. Absolut is a true icon with an authentic and unrivaled legacy in design. This is something I’m proud to put my stamp on and quite literally, weave cultures together.”
The Absolut clothsurgeon T-Shirt will retail for $126 USD (£95 GBP) on Clothsurgeon’s website from December 17 at 8 am GMT.
