Sada Baby Goes on the Offense in the Video for His Latest Single "Say Whoop"
“If that body drop I’m gonna smile.”
If 2019 was the most prosperous year in Sada Baby‘s short career, 2020 is already on course to be even better. After jump-starting his current yearly run by serving up his impressive Brolik tape, the Detroit hometown-hero is reconnecting with one of his city’s foremost videographers — and by default, YouTube tastemaker — @JerryPHD/Jerry Production for a new visual in support of his latest major release and single, the menacing “Say Whoop.”
“When I came, [I] was just droppin’ million-view video after million-view video, I was rookie of the year over there,” Sada Baby shared with us during a 2019 episode of our Conversations With interview series, opening up about his Detroit-based origins.
“Watching the dope boys live their life all through the city … They was rapping about Detroit shit when they first started,” Sada Baby added, revealing some insight into what inspires and births the lyrical narratives featured in records like “Say Whoop.” “All Blade Icewood’s early shit, he rap about Detroit shit; Streetlordz, [Streetlord] Juan and them, they was rapping about all Detroit shit. I think a lot of other motherf*ckers, they base or patent their style off somebody else’s pattern; Detroit people, we just go for what we know, and if it don’t work, it don’t work — motherf*ckers just keep doing it.”
