Produced entirely by the Brooklyn-based emcee.

Brooklyn rapper, producer, photographer and overall creative KOTA The Friend made a lasting impact last year thanks to his debut album FOTO followed by collaborations with Pivot Gang and his ongoing episodic Lyrics to GO Youtube series. Now he’s carefully combed through the 48-video playlist that dates back to January 2016 to deliver Lyrics to Go, Vol. 1.

Produced entirely by himself, KOTA’s latest 10-track offering showcases KOTA at his best with stream of consciousness flows over relaxed drum patterns giving just enough forward motion for the emcee to tackle themes of depression, seeing the world through tour travel and ending the need to please everybody. The project was initially hinted at during the release of his latest single “Berlin” and “Thieves”. In the above music video for “SHE”, KOTA keeps the camera zooming in slowly on the song’s protagonist reading a copy of The FADER and drinking tea on a late autumn day. The aesthetic mirrors past releases where subtle pastel yellow lyric captions accompany the minimalist scene. He will also be playing Governors Ball Music Festival this summer.

Watch the new music video for “SHE” above and stream the project in full below. In more music news, revisit the announcement of Nipsey Hussle’s GRAMMY Tribute coming later this week.
