According to reports, many speculate that Apple‘s upcoming 5G-enabled iPhones may not arrive until next January, despite previous reports of the device arriving sometime this year. Analytical firm Susquehanna has stated: “The delay in the launch, according to our checks, stems from Apple’s decision to in-source Antenna-in-Package (AiP) modules instead of purchasing from a third party.” Faster mmWave 5G iPhone models, Susquehanna notes, most likely won’t arrive before December.

T-Mobile’s current 5G network provides 600MHz 5G connectivity, however, it is only slightly faster than 4G LTE. The 5G service everyone is waiting for is mmWave, which is 10 times faster 4G LTE and is only offered by T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon, at limited availability. The service also has issues penetrating walls and buildings. As of now, users with the service need to stand close to a cell tower in order to utilize the mmWave’s faster speeds.

Many speculate Apple will announce its new 5G-enabled iPhones during its usual September keynote, but support for the network may not arrive until a few months later, similar to its rollout of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in 2017. Susquehanna also notes that the slower 5G iPhones will have LCD screens while the mmWave iPhones will have similar OLED screens to the iPhone 11.

Although there are currently no cell phone providers able to support all of the 5G technologies and mmWave network service is still limited, Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy S11 on February 11 and it may be the first to support it all.
