Nike Unveils Naomi Osaka's sacai Look for US Open
The tennis player will be the first to wear NikeCourt x sacai on the court.
Nike has unveiled Naomi Osaka‘s exclusive sacai look ahead of the US Open taking place in Flushing, Queens this week. Osaka, currently ranked the No. 1 player in the world, will be the first athlete to wear NikeCourt x sacai performance apparel. The Nike look, made in collaboration with Chitose Abe‘s sacai label, features a double-layer skirt atop a bodysuit, for a play on the classic tennis dress look.
The brand celebrated the collaboration with a pop-up entitled “Queens of the Future.” The event gathered top tennis players Markéta Vondroušová, Elina Svitolina, Madison Keys, Caroline Garcia, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Kvitová, Simona Halep, Maria Sharapova, Sloane Stephens, Osaka and Serena Williams, all of whom wore Nike apparel.
This is not the first time Nike has tapped a buzzed about designer to collaborate on tennis apparel. The brand most famously collaborated with Off-White™ to make Williams’ now famous custom tennis tutu for the 2018 US Open.
Osaka first signed with Nike in April of this year, after rumors swirled that she was entertaining a deal with adidas. Now 21, Osaka is the first Japanese-born player to reach the top ranking in singles tennis.
Osaka won the 2018 US Open after defeating Williams in a controversial match. She returns to the tournament to defend her title on August 27, playing against Russia’s Anna Blinkova in her first match.
