Nike's Colin Kaepernick Commercial "Dream Crazy" Has Been Nominated for an Emmy
“Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything.”
It was just back in September when Nike turned to Colin Kaepernick to fill the role of being the face of its 30th-anniversary “Just Do It” campaign. Apart from gracing various posters, the former NFL player narrated Nike’s “Dream Crazy” commercial, an ad which was deemed so good that it is now being nominated for an Emmy award.
Thanks to the partnership with creative agency Wieden + Kennedy, Nike is placed as a top contender under the Outstanding Commercial 2019 category, competing against other heavyweights like Apple and Netflix. Kaepernick, who has been a vocal activist over the last few years, says in the ad “believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything” – other athletes like LeBron James and Serena Williams make appearances in the video, too.
Though Kaepernick has been under contract with Nike since 2011, it wasn’t until the commercial was aired on TV on the opening game of the NFL’s regular-season last September that Nike saw a substantial spike in online purchases. According to sources, Nike’s sales grew by 31 percent in the first week the ads were released. The 2019 Emmys are set to take place September 22.
