Shoe City & EAT Team up for Bold New Balance 990v5
Aligning with EAT’s “elevate all the time” ethos.
Shoe City and Washington, DC-based boutique EAT have joined forces for a collaborative take on the New Balance 990v5. EAT is no stranger to working with with New Balance — it’s crafted New Balance 990v3s and New Balance 990v4s in years past — but here the design pays homage to DC’s love of the 990 series and EAT’s ethos in elevating everything it does to the highest level possible.
The 990 line’s pigskin suede and mesh upper is left intact and dressed in a dark steel grey. However, this recognizable base is simply a canvas for EAT’s signature bright yellow, blue and red palette, which is dispersed across the upper’s overlays. Down below, the sleek ENCAP midsole combines more grey, red and blue to complete the look.

This collaborative effort extends further than just footwear: the three partners have teamed up to provide DC’s Beacon House Community Center with Thanksgiving Day turkeys, paying holiday goodwill forward and furthering EAT’s mission of enriching its community.
The Shoe City x EAT x New Balance 990v5 will release on November 22 in full family sizes, exclusively at Shoe City and YCMC. Retail is set at $175 USD for men’s sizes, $100 USD for big kids’ sizes, and $80 USD for little kids’ sizes.
New Balance has more colorful kicks on the way as well — like the made-in-the USA 997S “Bated,” which features a striking multi-paneled design.
