Former YEEZY Designer Launches Affordable Tabi Sneaker and New Brand
ILYSM is both a creative studio and conscious design label.

Joining the YEEZY alumni already dabbling in sneaker design, former junior YEEZY designer Sara Jaramillo co-created a new footwear model to kick off a new venture dubbed ILYSM. Self-described as a “non-conventional platform to launch merch and projects,” ILYSM’s aim is to present a debut offering that succinctly encapsulates its worldview; this is accomplished by its premiere footwear model, designed by Alice Wang and Jaramillo (who also has experience as Proenza Schouler’s accessories designer): a sustainable tabi-inspired shoe offered at an affordable price point.
Though the tabi silhouette isn’t inherently distinct in the footwear industry, ILYSM’s offering stands out due to its contemporary, thoughtful construction. Crafted from yarn sourced from a mill that specializes in natural and traceable products, the shoes are designed from the ground up with consciousness in mind. Offered in white and black colorways, the uppers are specifically designed to save 30% in waste material over other sneaker models, thanks to a pattern that knits the uppers exactly to shape.
Each shoe utilizes textiles that blend threads of recycled polyester, viscose and silk for comfort and durability, with a merino wool sockliner that inherently reduces smell from sweat and footbed supported by a layer of mulesing-free merino wool and recycled foam. To complete the motif, ILYSM offers a pair of white socks made to pair perfectly with the shoe, complete with separated toe.
The tabi sneakers will retail for $99 USD and debut on ILYSM’s e-commerce site December 10.
Meanwhile, Maison Margiela‘s iconic spin on the tabi design recently received a “Bounce” sole update.
